    Description

    Very good condition original WWI US Model 1917 bayonet, as issued with the P17 Enfield rifle and various trench shotguns with bayonet adaptors. Originally made as a British P14, and later diverted for U.S. issue with the British proofs on the right ricasso cancelled. Maker marked “REMINGTON” on the left ricasso and dated “10 17” for October 1917. Right side is marked “US”. Blade has correct original metal finish of blued ricasso and remaining gray parkerized. Hilt has mostly brown patina. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit. Lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original first model scabbard. Leather is soft and supple with some wear. Stitching is mostly tight except for some loss below the belt hook. Tip has several dents. Maker marked “JEWELL” and dated 1917. A nice M1917 bayonet for your collection.
