US ARMY 1913 "PATTON" CAVALRY SABER SWORD SCABBARD ONLY W/ OLD FIELD REPAIR

$ 39.59

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: This scabbard has seen use, and has been painted more than once. It is now a deep olive green. It has a crude but sturdy field repair about in the middle, with the canvas cover of the scabbard slightly torn and stretched over a band of wrapped wire over the hickory wood of the inner scabbard. It is very sturdy, and was well-done, but is obvious, so there is no attempt to disguise it. In addition, the rivets on the throat are missing.

    Description

    This is a US Model 1913 Cavalry Sword / Saber Scabbard for the famous "Patton" cavalry sword. This is just a scabbard, not a sword. It is interesting for several reasons: it has seen obvious field use, and has been painted at least twice, and is now a dark green; it has a field repair at about the middle of the scabbard, where it was apparently broken, or at least badly bent. The field repair involved heavy wire wrapped around the hickory body, most of which is under the canvas web cover, although some is exposed. I really find this interesting, as with most Patton sabers, there is the question of whether they were ever actually issued for field use. This one was! The repair is strong, and although quite obvious, very well-done. The tip of the scabbard has a hole in it, so it may have started its life as a "tent pole" scabbard that had the peg removed in 1915.  In addition, the rivets on the throat are missing, although those on the drag are intact. The scabbard is 36 inches long. It is definitely usable, and I think would really add interest to a saber that appears to have been field used.
    If things are not as I describe them to be, you may return them for a full refund, including postage.
    Please note: We will ship the scabbard as carefully and inexpensively as we can. If we charge you over what it actually costs us, then we will issue you a refund for the difference.
