    Description

The item for sale is a vintage Sony TCM5000 3 head cassette recorder in fair cosmetic condition and partial functional condition. After servicing the unit, all functions work except: eject lock, ffwd, pause (doesn't latch, works while holding), and there is motor noise through earphone when volume is very low. Motor noise is filtered out as volume is increased. Maybe this is normal for this model. The unit plays, records, rewinds, all ports and knobs work, etc. I attempted to fully repair the unit from a completely non-functional state. The following services were performed: Cleaned case and chassis, cleaned/greased sliding parts and wheels, replaced belts, cleaned pots, switches, jack's, heads, roller, and capstan, oiled pulley shafts. This is still quite a usable unit. The manual record control together with 3 heads allows you to monitor what you're recording in real time as you adjust the source volume to the brink of saturating the tape. The speed control is great for experimental music production. You can use it as a tape delay effect if you have a mixer. Send your source to the input of one channel of your mixer. Connect the mixer auxiliary send to the TCM5000 line in. Connect the TCM5000 line out to the mixer auxiliary return. Connect the TCM5000 earphone port to the input of another channel of your mixer. Adjust the mixer channel volumes, send, and receive controls to control the delay level and decay.
