Description

WWI US Model 1917
Rifle Bayonet with a Model 1918 stamp.  Bayonet measures 21.75" overall with a blade length of 17".  Length of true edge 14.5", Fuller length 12.75", blade width 7/8".   Good looking two toned blade with some scattered age patina, blade is smooth and has not had anyone sharpen it. Good looking walnut wood grips with the correct vertical grooves about 3/8" apart., good working press-stud, all is tight with no looseness.  Ricasso area of blade marked, "1918/ REMINGTON" with Company in a circle. Obverse side shows the Eagle head over "25" which is the final inspection  stamp,  and an "X" which is the Acceptance mark. Above all of this is a Flaming bomb ordnance marking. Rarely did Remington make bayonets found with the 1918 date instead of the 1917 stamp.  The reason for this is not known for certain, but it is believed that Remington changed the date to coincide with the date of manufacture and was ordered to change back as the date was to be left 1917 as the Model date.* The scabbard is the correct one for the Model 1917 and is the 1st Style pattern. Nice heavy leather seamed up the back with olive drab color and metal blued ends. The hangar is marked "G&K/1917" which was the Graton & Knight Company of Worcester, Mass. Leather shows wear with a small crack developing on the back by metal end. Scabbard throat metal top is also stamped, "COB 180/ 109 ENG" See photos for further details, clarification, and condition.   A very nice piece for the Model 1917 Rifle and all shotguns with Bayonet Attachment and Handguard.
