Description
This is a model M-1904 US BOLO knife from WW1, with scabbard. Stamped SA for Springfield Armory, also stamped with manufacture date 1914, used by Hospital Corps .The United States military used “Bolo” style knives as an issue-type utility tool during WWI and into and through WWII. These originally started off in 1904 as full-size machetes, intended to be used by Hospital Corps troops who needed to hack through jungle to transport wounded, build field hospitals, and to cut poles for litters.
17 1/4" long with steel blade, S shaped brass crossguard, wood handle.
Wood handle missing the brass tip. Blade has a few nicks, leather separation and damage at end of scabbard and hangar, as shown.
