Hospital Corps 1904 US Army SA Bomb Orig Scabbard Unique Period Etching on Blade.  The overall length is 17 1/4", the blade length is 12",
    at the widest it measures
2 1/2", Top edge thickness is .345".  This knife is in very authentic used condition, very nice for its age and the job it performed.  Blade and handle are nice and tight with no cracks breaks or repairs. The substantial leather scabbard is also in nice condition showing typical wear but no damage or splits
    .
The sharp blade shows some discoloration as seen in pictures, no chips, gauges, damage or repairs.  The blade has some very interesting period information engraved on both sides, these engravings lie under substantial patina and show wear expected.  The manufacture marks read US 39091 (serial #) on one side, SA (Springfield Armory) with their Flaming Bomb Logo, 1914 on the other.  The blade on one side(tough to read in pictures but can be seen) is engraved "Medical Corps Knife Used In World War" on the other side is engraved "Used at Verdun France 1917-18-19.  The scabbard is marked York Island Arsenal 1912 H.E.K.
This is a piece from an extensive collection of world edged weapons assembled in the 1970's & 80's by a Northern Florida antique dealer.
