ca. 1950s, small Printer's Block or Line Cut showing the official emblem or logo for the United Cement, Lime & Gypsum Workers, a union affiliated with the AFL-CIO (which merged in the mid 1950s).
This is a
letterpress line cut or line engraving (known on ebay as printer's blocks - but a real printer never would have called them that), made from zinc and wood. Measures "type high" (0.918 inch) by 1 inch square
. I wish I could give size in printer's pica measure but I no longer have a line gauge.
Great item for collectors of mining items and for those who collect historical Union items.
The second scan (with the name UNITED CEMENT, LIME & GYPSUM WORKERS shown backwards) shows the line cut as it will look when you pull it out of the package. The first scan is "flipped" or reversed (by my computer) and shows - with the name "United Cement Lime & Gypsum Workers"
NOT
backwards - what the printed image will look like.
The quality of the print you get from this block - or ANY block - depends on the quality of your ink, your paper, your printing press, the make-ready - and on the experience of the press woman or pressman.

Use dimensions given in the first paragraph above to judge size. Ebay's new rules about pictures may well mean the scans shown here are larger (or smaller) than the actual size of the cut.
